The physical installation "Work. Meaning and Care" [artcom.de], located at the German Museum of Hygiene (Dresden), visualizes an impressive amount of facts and statistics through a single concept: a physical, "statistical" and sculptural black ribbon. Like a red line in storytelling, the continuous aluminium ribbon connects the many rooms and corridors as well as the different elements that relate to the meaning and functions of work in our society. Designed by the famous German-based interactive media firm Art+Com, a series of minimalistically 3D lines, surfaces, blocks and points expand from the ribbon to illustrate statistical background information in a both enjoyable and detailed way. The larger the specific statistical number, the larger the according physical manifestation on the wall, so that some pieces are more than 3 meters high. Several interactive props and more than 50 touch screens have been integrated in the ribbon to offer the exhibition visitors the possibility to explore the data, facts and related interviews in an individual way. Here's a selection of great infographics found over at Infographics News and Francesco Mugnai. Some may look familiar, as many have been very popular and made their way around the web in last year, but they're all examples of good color use. The color palettes are consistent throughout the graphics without making things unnecessarily complicated with palettes that strain the eyes or make use of too many colors.
